/REST/: to cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength.
Resting is one of life’s things that is easier said than done. So many are caught in the grind of work, family responsibilities and chronic stress. Often, we only allow ourselves to truly rest on holidays or vacation (and sometimes, not even then!). However, it’s so important to prioritize adequate rest and quality sleep in your everyday life.
If left untreated, long-term stress can cause chest pain, headaches, digestive issues, anxiety, depression, changes in sexual desire and inability to focus. It may not seem like a big deal to skip relaxation in your daily routine. However, there are several benefits to daily rest and relaxation:
- reduced stress and anxiety
- improved mood
- decreased blood pressure
- chronic pain relief
- improved immune health
- stronger cardiovascular system
Rest and sleep are two different things, but both are equally important to your mental, emotional and physical health. Plus, prioritizing rest can actually improve your quality of sleep.
We invite you to take refuge in rest.
This unique combination of practices invites you to unwind and reconnect with yourself during an otherwise hectic time of year.
Begin your experience with a calming tea ritual, where you'll get to thoughtfully choose your own loose leaf tea blend to enjoy while settling into your "yoga nest".
Sheree Corbett will then guide you into a restorative yoga practice. Moving slowly with the use of props, we aim to create an environment where you can rest and restore our bodies. Communal rest is oftentimes inherent to yoga as rest practice; every time we take savasana at the end of a class, we are embracing collective rest. Resting in held spaces, supported by the facilitator as well the people we share the setting with, can not only take us deeper into our own rest but can also be a way to embrace how community action and activism benefits from these moments of collective inaction.
During this restorative practice, massage therapist Ashley Evans will indulge each person in a soothing scalp massage that will enhance your sense of tranquility. Not only do scalp massages promote relaxation, but studies have shown that they boost serotonin levels, a hormone that plays a role in improving your mood.
To honor each body with time and space, workshop size is limited to 6 individuals. Secure your spot today!
